Sense and Warn Operator (Afghanistan / Iraq) - Job Description:

  • Operate Sense & Warn (SnW) computers in a Base Defense Operations Center on a Forward Operating Base, Afghanistan and maintain system equipment
  • Understand reporting requirements and prepare reports as directed
  • Copy and store Host Data, Threat Reports and WAVEs files to Compact Disk (CD)
  • Provide responsive and timely information to supported unit during IDF events
  • Clean and maintain BDOC area and B-Hut
  • Identify any system issues to FOB Team Lead/2IC
  • Radio and telephone watch
  • Help with downed equipment repair, or movement
  • Provide assistance with tasks associated with their life support.
  • While on shift, one operator will be on call to assist with any work related duties outside the work station that may require additional personnel
  • Update Maintenance Tracker and send to OST daily
  • Participate in Battle Drill with entire JDOC/BDOC
  • Data Collect WAVES/Host-logs
  • Mule/Gator Maintenance (Before / After) and refuel each vehicle, as required
  • Trouble shoot system faults, as required
  • Assist Field Service Representatives (FSR's), Subject Matter Experts (SME's) and C-RAM system installers with updates and any installation requirements, as needed
  • Ensure that the daily duty log is properly filled out and submitted
  • Identify system deficiencies, make on-site operator level repairs and when appropriate request higher echelon maintenance.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services on C-RAM components.
  • Monitor hardware and software component performance and identify system deficiencies.
  • Perform coordination with the Base Defense Operations Center.
  • Interface with SnW regional and theater personnel as required.
  • Provide status reports (equipment, personnel, significant activity, and other operational data).
    • Examples would be: Assist with downloading air drops when they occur and distribution of mail when it arrives or unloading food/water or help establish billeting may be some of the things the contractor shall be asked to support.


  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduates of U.S. Army (or service equivalent) Battle Staff Course, Advance Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) education system, officers' basic course and/or officers' advanced courses are desired


  • Must have OCONUS deployment experience in the military or as a civilian contractor.
  • Prior military experience is preferred.
  • Experience with operating and maintaining DoD battle command hardware and software within an operational network is preferred
  • Operations and maintenance with C-RAM C2, FAAD C2, AMDWS, warning systems, C-NET, Ku Radar, or other Army Battle Command System (ABCS) communications network is preferred


  • Ability to spend time in and Huntsville, AL (training); and up to twelve months deployed to Afghanistan (operations).  Must be able to be on bench (paid @ 40 hours per week) after class ends and deployment begins.
  • Agreement to remain on the bench after training while awaiting deployment (pay continues while on bench)
  • Must pass an employment drug and background check prior to hire
  • Must have a DoD security clearance with a minimum of 24 months remaining before re-investigation from date of training start date
  • Must have, US passport - with a minimum of 24 months remaining
  • Must be able to complete a Maritime Physical and other DoD physical requirements and meet body mass standard required by CENTCOM medical and deployment readiness standards and are physically, medically, and psychologically fit for deployment. Routine and primary medical, vision, dental care and pharmaceutical services are not available in Afghanistan.
  • Individuals with a Reserve/National Guard obligation must be in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) or have a verifiable documentation that the individual is authorized to forego drill requirements for the duration of assignment with this program
  • Living/working conditions while OCONUS considered hazardous and austere
  • Military Veterans are required to provide a copy of most current DD Form 214 as evidence of an Honorable Discharge
